The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team will travel to play at Fredericksburg Heritage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.

The Flames (1-1) are entering the contest with momentum after needing only two quarters to crush Runge 82-32.

Faith and Heritage are traditional rivals but haven’t played each other since the Flames won 74-50 Sept. 10, 2021.

“They are a solid team,” Flames head coach Jay Silvers said. “They show a lot of different formations for our defense. It could come down to simplifying what I do. If they get tight, we adjust. If they spread out, we adjust. They run more than spread out. They have athletes that can run.”

The Eagles’ natural speed also is on display defensively where they pursue ball carriers in a hurry.

“They’re aggressive, they fly to the ball,” Silvers said. “I’m hoping our offense can take advantage of that. We want to keep everything open and out and let our athletes be athletes.”

Senior Carter Fromberg, junior Andrew Houy and freshman Landon Silvers split time at quarterback. They can run, throw and catch equally well. But the coach indicated the Flames will add a few more wrinkles into their scheme this week.

“We have that three-headed beast making it hard for teams,” he said. “I’m hoping to use that to our advantage. Our receivers have done a great job blocking and catching.”

Defensively, Silvers pointed out he is looking for one big adjustment. It took Faith about three possessions to shut down Runge, led by Jose Mendoza, who kept matching the Flames touchdown for touchdown. But when defensive coordinator Cole Garrett had a chat with his unit in between possessions, the Flames got the defensive stops the coaches wanted.

“It came down to knowing your job,” Silvers said of his players. “We had a couple who were over-pursing. In our game plan, we showed how we were going to corral (Mendoza). With us being out of position and over-pursuing, we weren’t doing those things. The boys are pretty good about being coached and fixing things pretty quickly. In the second quarter, we shut everything down.”
